The Japan National Tourism Bureau (JNTO) appointed Dr. Mitsuo Ochi, President of Hiroshima University, as MICE Ambassador for the first half of FY 2020. His appointment ceremony took place on September 29, 2020.

The JNTO appoints influential individuals who have an extensive network of contacts in the fields of academic or industry and who can dedicate themselves on behalf of the country to promoting Japan as a destination for international meetings and to attracting more of these meetings to Japan as a MICE Ambassador.

As an expert orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee joint surgery, Dr. Ochi is known for his outstanding achievements in the field of regenerative medicine and has been invited to more than 180 international academic conferences. He has great influence on both the domestic and international medical worlds and was awarded Medal of Honor with Violet Ribbon in 2015. Hiroshima University also plays an active role in attracting and hosting international meetings through providing financial and practical support for its professors who hold international meetings.

We are looking forward to working with the newly appointed MICE Ambassador to continue our efforts in attracting international meetings to Hiroshima and providing support for such meetings.
